Symbol of the catholic community in the state

From the release of the fundamental stone, in 1921, to the conclusion of Catedral Metropolitana de Porto Alegre, in 1986, 65 years have passed. The neo-renascentist project was elaborated by the Cúria Romana’s architect, Giovanni Baptista Giovenalle. Just the two towers took 20 years to be built. The summit has 65 meters of height and intern diameter of almost 18 meters.

The mosaics of its facade were made by Academia de Mosaicos do Vaticano. Visits are able on Mondays from 7am to 7pm, on Saturdays from 9am to 7pm and on Sundays from 8am to 7pm.

It’s on 1047, Rua Duque de Caxias, Centro. More information on the telephone (51) 3228-6001.
